Simple Curb Appeal Landscaping

A majority of folks don't understand that landscaping not only makes good curb appeal, but it can help to increase the re-sale value of the home or land by up to 15%. This is a huge increase, and so it is well worth checking out a few of the simple techniques of garden design for your yard whether you are thinking about selling your house or just want to sustain its market price.

There are many ways you could establish an attractive landscape design plan that uses color, balance, focal points, and form. A lot of people assume that adding curb appeal is just a matter of planting a few plants to dress up your front yard and thinking it's good. It's true that plants are a fundamental part of a landscape designer's arsenal and they can do a lot on their own. You should keep in mind, however, choosing the wrong kind of flowers and plants can do more harm than good.

There are few things that look more sloppy than flowers that are grouped raggedly, and clearly it won't help the curb appeal of your house. Your landscaping ideas should consider the up-keep that will be involved in things such as clearing flower beds and taking off spent blossoms. You also need to consider how the front yard is going to look come fall or the winter months when the flowers and plants have all withered and died.

You probably want to consider using flowers judiciously, relying mostly on perennials which not only are easy to maintain but also come back again and again. Put in annuals for the gaps in color. For instance, if you have a rose garden, they will probably be dead and withered by mid summer. If you plan ahead and put annuals at the base of the roses, you'll still have lively color all summer.

As the backbone of your garden, use evergreen or semi-evergreen plants, shrubs, and bushes which will give you all year color and beauty. Strive for an array of textures and forms, and try to find flowers of different leaf structures and various heights. Look over some landscaping ideas pictures for an idea of how contrast works. You could contrast little and rounded plants with spindly and leafy ones, for a perfect look. You shouldn't disregard the value of evergreens, which are green all year and also come in many textures and shapes. Using evergreens with deciduous hedges or bushes is an attractive way to mix form and pattern and create curb appeal with your landscaping.

Another good landscaping technique is to design areas of focus. Use hedges and shrubs to border a stairway, or put in a light standard at the top of the steps. You could use garden decor items such as bird baths, fountains or columns to design intriguing landscaping ideas. Just take care not to overdo it. You could go a step further and establish a water feature like a waterfall that imitates those in nature. Waterfalls are a guaranteed way to develop instant curb appeal with your landscaping and it's fairly easy if you like a good project.

It's important that you always keep your lawn mowed, and things clean and neat. An important part of a great looking landscape design is to have a well kept yard. With these easy guidelines you'll be on your way to creating beautiful landscaping to add curb appeal.
